We stock a wide range of aquarium products and we've got everything you'll need to maintain a healthy aquarium whether you are a beginner or a serious enthusiast. Here's a quick tour round the shop and our range of aquarium products.
Aquariums come in all shapes and sizes and cater for everyone from the absolute beginner to the serious enthusiast.
Fish are our passion and the Weald team are experts in their field. Our bank of 56 freshwater tropical, 9 coldwater and 21 tropical marine aquariums house a stunning variety of fish. And if we haven't got what you want, just ask and we'll try and get it for you.
When you see the wide range of different treatments available it can look a bit daunting. We have treatments for algae, bacterial infections, water condition and much more as well as general tonics to keep your fish in perfect condition. Again, the Weald experts will happily advise you on what you need.
Keeping your water in tip-top condition is important for a healthy aquarium. We have test kits for both freshwater and marine aquariums to measure the pH levels in your water as well as ammonia, nitrates, nitrites and phosphates, oxygen, general and carbonate hardness. Also test kits that have several tests in one product.
Plants will enhance the aesthetic appeal of your aquarium as well as providing other important benefits such as oxygenating the water, providing shelter for fish and aiding water quality by using the fish waste. We also stock artificial plants which can look very realistic.
The substrate at the bottom of your tank will give it a good foundation. It's also important for the fish as it allows them to orient themselves in the aquarium. We stock a range of fish-safe substrates in both natural and stained colours.
The filter media are the materials that go inside the filter to provide the mechanical, biological and chemical filtration. These include sponges, carbon and bio-media. They will collect the waste from the water so it's important to clean and/or replace these regularly.
Tropical fish need to be kept in water at about 25 degrees Celsius so you will need a heater to maintain the correct temperature in the aquarium. Many aquariums come with a built-in heater. We can advise you on the type and size of heater you require based on the size of your aquarium.
Want to find out more about this fascinating hobby? Come and have a browse at our bookcase where we've got books and leaflets on all aspects of fishkeeping including books that cover everything and more specialist offerings on fish, plants and corals.
Marine systems are of course saltwater set-ups and therefore salt needs to be added when carrying out a water change. We have a range of marine salt for both reef and fish-only tanks. Also reef aquariums absorb more elements in the water than other aquariums so minerals need to be replaced such as magnesium and iodine.
Marine accessories encompass a variety of products to keep the water in top condition. A skimmer in a marine aquarium helps water quality. When doing water changes, RO (reverse osmosis) water should be used. We sell RO water but also stock RO units for customers who want to produce their own RO water.
Keeping marine fish is more demanding than tropical but the beautiful colours and shapes of these fish are well worth the effort. The Weald team are more than happy to wax lyrical about any aspect of marine fish and fishkeeping so why not come in and bend our ear?
Adding corals to your reef brings the reef alive. These fascinating creatures can be used on their own in a reef-only aquarium or combined with suitable fish.
Another fascinating type of creature for the marine set-up are the invertebrates which cover a very wide range of different species such as crabs, shrimps, molluscs, starfish, tubeworms and anenomes. Invertebrates help to keep the aquarium clean by eating food that your fish can't get to and also eating algae.
